video strangeness

ok I've been experimenting lately with diff Xwins and decided on kde, well after that little war was over (I have both Gnome & KDE loaded on here)I have a nvidia 3dforce2mx-32 and a compaq fp7317 monitor, and after finally getting all the files copied to their respective locals according to the instructions in the readme from Adobe on Flashplayer i still can't get to a point where i can turn off hardware accelaration and the preferences i can find don't give that option, video is really tearin the bottom off of any streaming vids, found in system settings how to increase refresh rate as was suggested in another thread, but still getting weirdness.
any suggestions?

You could try an older version of Flash (<9.*). Back then, there was no acceleration, so it might help. Also disable KWin acceleration, if your card is as old as the name make it look like, it will probably cause more troubles and tearing.

my thanks Elv13,

however I believe I have discovered it isn't flash that's the prob here it looks like me having "modern" software and an "antique" computer, what I have discovered so far is that the Nvidia Nouveau drivers are a bit newer than I require so i'm gonna see if I can crash this intall by doing the following

1. get sources.list updated with the new ones i've found (and yes I remember to use only 5 at a time)
2. since I have both KDE 4.4 and Gnome 3 on this beast I'll purge Gnome
3. purge Nouveau driver
4. the video card is a GeForce2 MX200 32mb so it sounds like install the legacy 96xx driver and assorteds
5. upgrade KDE
6. configure X

will this cause implosion?
are there any steps I might be missing?
have I lost me BB's and think I've become a guru in 2 months?

any suggestions, questions, or high pitched loud NNOOOOO's will be accepted!!!!

Try looking at this recent post by DavidMcCann in a similar thread.

Rogshoggy 09-24-2012 03:22 AM

ok that produced this
root@theranch:/# cat /proc/cpuinfo | grep sse2
flags : fpu vme de pse tsc msr pae mce cx8 apic sep mtrr pge mca cmov pat pse36 clflush dts acpi mmx fxsr sse sse2 ss ht tm up pebs bts

so I'm gonna guess the cpu can handle flash 11?

Your CPU seems to support SSE2, so it should work ok with recent Flash versions.
Try looking at my other post in that thread for a way to disable hardware acceleration in Flash.
OTOHm you're not using Linxu on a virtual machine, are you?
