video problem at installation

So my problem is with video. I am a newbie and do not no much when it comes to linux installation. I am installing FC3 on a machine that I built my self. I want to set it up as a duel boot with Windows XP. I have XP already on there so thats not a problem. When installing FC3 I am having video problems. when I put in the first CD and choose the GIU set up it starts to load fine and then I get some broken text before it goes into GUI set up. GUI starts and I proceed as nothing is wrong. After the entire setup and reboot I am asked to log in. Ounce I log in I lose all video and get a basic shell and thats it.

Can someone Please give me advice as to what is not functioning properly. I pretty sure its the drivers for my video card and if it is I would not know hoe to troubleshoot this. Can some please help.

Thanks in advance.

Ben

The video driver is a BIG one... ATI and nVidia. No native 3D acceleration

Well I just found this here on a search. My graphics card is an ATI Ecstasy 9600 I believe. Does this mean that Fedora Core 3 will not work with my graphics card. One theory of mine was to do a text based install and then install KDE after words. Can anyone support that for me

Thanks again

even if your card is not supported (did you spell it correctly?) you can usually login graphically, by choosing a standard vesa card on your install.

always google first to see if it is supported
