What codec files have you downloaded?
Download the codecs and extract them from the archive. Now have you created the /usr/lib/win32 directory. If not you need to but also must be done as root.
Once creted then you can copy the contents of the extracted archive to /usr/lib/win32.

i have installed all of the codecs form the mplayer website and i have installed them to the /usr/lib/win32 directory

No idea why it would not work. Check to make sure you have all needed apps and libriaries for kaffine. Check out and see if there is a similiar post using the search feature if you have not done that yet. Also check over at the suse forum as well. Last idea is contact the developers of kaffine and see what they may know.

Post back what you did to get it fixed.

Check that kaffeine is actually looking in /usr/lib/win32 for the win32 codecs. The default is usually /usr/lib/codecs.

EDIT: Do you have Xine installed? Kaffeine needs xine-lib as well.

Do you have mplayer installed? Tad offtopic I know, but mplayer is a brilliant debugger of any and all multimedia problems. Run mplayer 'filename.[mp3|avi|wma]' and it has very detailed output, it'll tell you why playback isn't working for you :)

i have xine installed

i dont have mplayer..i only got the codecs though i will give it a try then
edit: i tryed to install it but i kept getting dependecy problems

i'll have a look at my yast control centre then and see if i missed anything durin instillation

i have just installed the latest version of kaffine player and i seem to have got it playing one .AVI file and one .AVI file without sound though i still cant get it to play anything else

i think it might be a xine engine thing because this is the error that i get ehen i tryed to play an mpeg file

thanks very much people! you all really helpful here
