video/network adapter

Well, I'm starting with GNU/Linux, so my question may look obvious for you, but I really need a help!

I installed Conectiva 8 in a machine with some non so new hardware.
I could not set my network adapter properly. This is a RealTek 8139D. Conectiva 8 supports it, but it's not working. I could not even get a response from command "lspci".
The second problem is with my video adapter, I guess.
When GNU/Linux starts, if I chose the "Text Mode" it works fine, but if I chose the "Graphic Mode" the screen turns to black and can't see a thing!
My video adapter is a Trident all right set. When I had to chose the monitor, duringin the installation, then I choose the Generic. Can this be the problem?

Any help is welcome!

If you know your card is the Realtek 8139 then you can try just modprobing that up:
modprobe 8139too
To get lspci working you need to install pciutils, this should be a package available on your install CD(s), also you will need to be the root (admin) user, and if it's not set, use the full path:
As far as your video adapter is concerned, I really am not familiar with that model, but you might want to check the HCL as well as
