video card Prob ?
 

Hi,

I have switched from a 19" Trinitron to a 21" Trinitron and installed the appropriate driver. It's display of text at POST and the Pre- OS legend in Windows are as expected, but when Windows or Linux is loaded there is multiple ghosts to the right of texts and icons etc...

Any ideas what the solution might be?


My old monitor was:
Dell Trinitron ULTRASCANP99

Horizontal scan range 30 kHz to 96 kHz
Vertical scan range (Refresh rate) 48 Hz to 120 Hz
Optimal preset resolution 1024 x 768 at 75 Hz or 85 Hz
Highest preset resolution 1600 x 1200 at 75 Hz
Highest capable resolution 1600 x 1200 at 75 Hz


My new Monitor is:

Dell Trinitron P91130

Vertical scan range 48 Hz to 170 Hz (automatic)

Optimal preset resolution 1280 x 1024 at 85 Hz
Highest preset resolution 1600 x 1200 at 85 Hz
Highest addressable resolution* 2048 x 1536 at 80 Hz *

Addressable means the monitor will sync up to this mode. However, Dell does not guarantee the image will be sized and centred correctly.

NB: Dropping the res or refresh rate makes no difference

The electron tubes are not converging. You or a professional have to converge them. Do not ask me how because it is different for each CRT computer and TV monitor.

... So as it doesn't matter which OS you are using, it's probably a hardware fault.

Maybe a bad video cable - improperly terminated cables will cause signal reflections (from one end of the cable to the other), causing ghosts that gradually fade away as the reflected signals reduce in amplitude.
So, check your cable is properly plugged in.
Then try the monitor on another PC - if still the same problem, I'd take it back!
