Am new to linux and just installed Mandrake 7.0. using a PII 400 with 128 Mb
> RAM 10 Gb hard dirve and a dedicated 3.1Gb drive for Linux. I have a Hercules Terminator > 128/3D video card and a Taxan Ergovision 735TCO99 monitor. First install > proceeded as far as "install X" when I got a screen showing suggested > resolutions, refresh rates etc. which seemed to agree with figures for > monitor so accepted settings. The system then showed a black screen and > "hung" - I had to switch off to re-boot. I was not able to get the system > running, so re-installed Mandrake. This time I did NOT get the resolutions > screen for the final "Install X" stage, and the system again hung. A friend > tried to sort it out - getting to the console (Linux 3 command at boot up) > and running Xconfigurator. Trying even the lowest resolution setting did not > improve matters. Was told either monitor not compatible, or video card not > compatible. > The monitor did NOT feature in the list of monitors in Xconfigurator, but > the video card did. What am I doing wrong??
