Unhappy Via Velocity Gigabit LAN aint working in suse

hi all I have installed linux suse 9.1 and i cant get connected to internet and i think and hope that it is just something easy to fix i hav a abit av8 motherboard but i just cant get it working anyone know what to do??

Did you configure your network? First thing to check is whether your network card was detected. Type "/sbin/ifconfig -a" at the command prompt and see if there's an entry for "eth0" (first Ethernet card). If there is, the card is detected and all you need to do is use YaST to configure it. Not sure of the exact details, because I'm not a SuSE user.
