vgchange -an command fail to work to inactive VG || umount Logical volume succesfull


Hi All,

umounted all logical volume of tomcatvg successfully.But when tried to deactive Volume group using vgchange command show logical volume are in active state .Need help how to force de-active Volume group .


Actioned perfomed
================
vgchange -an tomcatvg


[root@porsche ~]# vgs
VG #PV #LV #SN Attr VSize VFree
tomcatvg 1 10 0 wz--n- 95.38g 8.88g


[root@porsche ~]# cat /etc/fstab | grep -i fs_opt_tomcat
/dev/tomcatvg/fs_opt_tomcat /opt/tomcat ext4 defaults 1 2
[root@porsche ~]#

fuser -km /opt/tomcat
umount /opt/tomcat

Still I could find logical volume in active state

[root@porsche ~]# lvs | grep -i appvg
fs_opt_tomcat tomcatvg -wi-ao---- 5.00g

You don't say how that vg is mounted, or if anything is still open on that filesystem, what version/distro of Linux, or give many details. But is the command you presented correct, or does it have a typo?? Should be "vgchange -a n tomcatvg", with a space.

If there are open files, processes that are using that volume, users that are logged in and have working directories on that volume, etc., all of which may impact your ability to 'dismount' it.

Hi ,

Open files of filesystem created the problem.killed open file .Volume Group de-activate successfully.thanks for your help.Just another help over here.

There is any possible way of umount Logical volume of particular Volume Group Simulataneously .

My server was build with three volume Group rootvg,tomcatvg,apachevg.Tomcatvg has build with more than 500 Logical Volume .whether there is any possible way of umount all logical volume of tomcatvg simultaneously without affecting apachevg &rootvg

You've been using Linux for four years now, and have said you're a senior systems administrator. Not sure why ANYONE would build a server with 500 logical volume groups, but if I had to do something like this, I'd probably write a script. You obviously have the commands you need to run, and know what you need to check.
