Very simple Firefox question
 

How do I install Firefox in Mandrake 10.1? I extracted the tar.gz in Ark (default application) and now I don't know what to do. I saved it to /home/simon/firefox . so what do I do?

There should be a script installer to run

Look in the directory, find the script and ./script.name

i believe it is "./firefox-installer"

Theres a thing called firefox-installer-bin, butwhen I say to open it (double click, should I another way?), it won't open because of safety.

you do it from command line... cd into the folder that it created... so something like...
that should do it for ya

Ok, thanks, I got it.

OK, this is my second day with Linux, so don't laugh. I read what's above, and opened a terminal, but I can't seem to get the commands to work. To get in as the root I did the su thing and entered my password. Being anal me, I had downloaded the intaller into a folder called FireFox within another folder called Downloads in the main user folder, mary, which is in the home folder.

Looking at the items in the code box above I subtituted mary/downloads/firefox for simon, but it tells me that no such folder exists. This is my first time entering code. I took that to be two lines. Like DOS (wow that was a long time ago) I do the CD comand to get into that directory, and once in it the second line runs the bin file and installs the software, or is it supposed to be all one line but is wraped in that box?

Just use the second line of the code in that box once you're in the right directory. The first line is a separate command that would have gotten simon into his right directory.

Thanks for the clarification. After going back and reading what I posted and what you said I realized I was goofing myself up with CaPiTaL letters. So I got it to run, and had it open, and closed it down, and expected to find it on my menu but couldn't.

As an FYI, I am running Mandrake 10.1 which I installed last night.

I had the same problem. What you do to get into it is go into the folder you installed it in Konquerer, not the terminal, and find a terminal icon that says Firefox under it. Double click it to make sure it works. Now, right click on the desktop, creat a shortcut/link (cant remember, away from my computer), and link to the Firefox file. If you want, right click the new shortcut and go to properties and add the firefox icon which is in the firefox directory under icons I think. Now just check to make sure it works.
