very new: how to install a program?

It's funny how something so simple can be soooo difficult when you don't know how to do it :)

I just switched over to SUSE 9.3 w/GNOME 2.10 and wanted to install Mozilla Thunderbird to accompany my Firefox. I dl'd the software to my desktop but i dont know how to compile/execute so that i can get it installed? anyone wanna help a newb?

secondly, i have all my old winxp stuff on an external hard drive. When i power that up, GNOME doesn't recognize it. how would i fix that? and would my old thunderbird profile from xp be compatible with the thunderbird on linux (my guess is no)?

lastly, i have a microsoft wireless optical mouse, and it works great except I can't get GNOME to make my wheel move web pages and the like up and down? any help there?

Thanks in advance!

Installing software, do a search here. there are a bunch of posts on how to do it.

How do you know your hard drive isn't being recongnized? is it formatted ntfs? If so, ntfs write is experimental and i'm not sure if SUSE has it out of the box, but you should be able to read it.

Something everyone should be ready for when using linux is learning, sometimes you learn more finding the answers to the easy questions by yourself.
