Version of distribuition and hardware

Hi to all!
I'm a newbie so i have a question...i have an AMD 3000+ sempron processor but i don't know
if it is a 32 or 64 bit...also i'd like to know what could be the problem if i try to install a version of linux for 32 bit processors into a 64 bit processor and viceversa...thanks a lot!

Hi,

You can download a small program from this site:

http://www.amdboard.com/software.html

It will show you all the info you need to determine what type of processor you have.

You will need to download the proper version of linux that fits your processors architecture.

What distibution where you thinking/planning to install?

Greetings,

An AMD Sempron processor is NOT 64 bit.

From what I have read, there should be few problems installing a 32 bit distribution of Linux on a 64 bit AMD processor; although I don't advise doing so.

However, 64 bit software absolutely will not execute on a 32 bit processor.:D

Some later Semprons are 64-bit; it depends on the exact model and stepping, etc.
