VEEEERRRRRYYYY new

Sorry if you have answered this question before but I would really appreciate your help here.

I am trying to install a training software for SLES 9 server but it keeps saying am installing a 32 bit software on a 64 bit computer. Swiftly moving on, when I come to the end of the instalation and reboot, the screen goes blue black flickering. Please help(((

Cheers:cry:

I don't know how to answer ur question actually. But, I'd like to suggest u should at least put ur hardware info plus what kind of screen output u r getting before flickering so as to get a good suggestion from one of LQ members.

Agree, put some info about your hardware.

But, from what you are saying, it looks like you have the wrong set of CDs/DVDs to install from. Looks like you have a new fancy machine running 64 bits while your SLES9 version is made for older machines.

If you want to stay with SLES, try to get the newest version SLES10 and get the x64 version. PS! I am assuming you are running an Intel 64 bit or AMD 64 bit machine and not something like PowerPC based one....

Trouble with instalation

Thanks for your replies. I have downloaded what I think is the 64 bit software from Novell but still wont work.

Some hardware info
Display control secondary:-ATI RV280 Radeon 9200
VGA compatible controller:- ATI RV 280 5961
Monitor:- PLM-171M

Anyway the installation goes well and when I reboot it loads to OS but almost soon after that I goes flickering. Reason am using SUSE 9 is because I am trying to prepare for an exam and there are no SUSE 10 server books out yet.

Cheers

Flickering? can you describe it further? Is the computer still responsive? What video drivers are you using?

32 bit software on 64 software?

why don't you just get the 64 software then?

The only way I can best describe the flickers is it is blue, black and white colour bars that shake side ways very rapidly. No the computer is not responsive and my video driver is ati2dvag.dll, the device AGP Radeon 9200.

I hope this makes sense

??? a .dll named driver? never heard of one.

Anyways, see what happens when you use the vga driver instead.

oops: also, make sure your monitor timings are correct.

AFAIK, a *.dll file is strictly MSWin only, unless you are talking about trying to run it via Wine. Don't know if you can do that though...

Eternal_Newbie 06-29-2007 07:23 AM

What is the name of the software you are installing?

Munichjesh 06-29-2007 08:18 AM

Cheers for all the replies. Am trying to get a CLP in between changing nappies:cool: I will check out my hardware again but I will let you all know how I get on.
