/var file space too low need to make it larger

How do I take unused space in /usr and move it to /var without losing all my data? Redhat 7.2 is my OS.

Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/sda5 372M 70M 283M 20% /
/dev/sda1 48M 6.0M 39M 13% /boot
/dev/sda3 2.0G 33M 1.8G 2% /home
none 93M 0 93M 0% /dev/shm
/dev/sda2 5.4G 1.1G 4.0G 21% /usr
/dev/sda6 248M 204M 31M 87% /var

with ur partition layout, its a bit tricky. you'll have to make use of parted and lvm:
parted - to shrink /usr -- this is very dangerous and might render your system corrupted
lvm - to add the freed diskspace to /var

If I were u I'd backup my config and data and do a clean install - much easier.
