Validate Samba users on Windows 2003 Server

Hey,

I have 3 pcs, 1 running samba/dhcp, 1 running AD on windows 2003, and one client.
I need to get alle users created on the samba server validated on the windows server.
And if it's possible, then get all users on samba, created on the win server, or the other way around.
How do i do that?

thx :)

I would set the samba box as the domain controller, and have the 2003 box logon to the domain controlled by samba. Throw AD into the closest convenient river/ditch.

If you do it the way I suggested, you don't need AD on the 2003 box. By signing onto the domain controlled by samba, you'll have the authentication handled by samba, and the rights to shared directories on the 2003 box can also be controlled by the samba server. It might be possible to have AD slave itself to samba or the other way around, but that would probably get rather difficult. I think it is possible with LDAP, but not sure about everything.

peace,
JimBass

ok ty, i know there may be better ways to do it, for example through the AD away ;D but i need this setup. So i need to find a solution to this.

Where can i find some info about LDAP?

You could google samba LDAP.

Why do you think you need that setup? As far as I know there is nothing AD does that samba can't do. That sort of creates a 2-headed ogre, and chances are good one head would work just fine. With 2 controllers, you get issues like a user was created in AD and samba donesn't know about them, or the other way.

Peace,
JimBass
