Unhappy VAIO W10 w/sis650 chipset

I recently try to install Suse Linux 8.1 to this sony vaio. Everything went fine; however once it finished loading all drivers, right before it started X server, the screen went black. I have followed many tips from websites eg setting apci=off, doing lspci, running sax2. However, I still cannot bring up Xserver. Could it be because this computer has a weird screen dimension? The resolution of the screen is 1280x768@60.

I am a newbie. I am not sure what kind of info I need to post here so that you can help me to resolve my problem. Would anyone please shed some light?

Try changing the screen resolution to 640x480 or 800x600
then work up
