Using vnc in RHEL

I am new to RHEL. I am trying to get into VNC viewer but i am unable to do so.

I have 2 issues.
1. How do i see other desktops using vnc from RHEL.
2. How do i access RHEL using vnc from other desktops.

For the 2nd point i have done the steps what ever i could find i.e,
- Putting a passwd for the vnc server
-addding ports from 5900-5904
-editing the xorg.conf file
-restarting the machine.
Got the help from http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...server-635622/

I did get a successful connection from a windows machine into the RHEL server but then the server hangs and keyboard does not work so i have to restart it.

Please help. I need it urgently.

Hi there,

Welcome to LQ!!!

Answer to your first query:

You can remote desktop to windows system using RHEL by following command: rdesktop ip_address_or_dnsname_of_windows_machine

You have to enabled Remote Desktop on Windows machine for this.

Answer to your second query:

Here is the link using which you can configure vncserver on RHEL: http://gofedora.com/how-to-configure-vnc-server/

The above document is for Fedora and it will work for configuring it on RHEL. The step that you might be missing is setting up the vncpasswd using the same account you mentioned in vnc config file.

I hope this helps.
