Using SSD that *used to* be in RAID1
Hello,
I removed an old ssd from a raid1 config and placed it in my laptop to install debian on. However, Debian is not seeing the drive when it gets to the partitioning portion of the installer due to the old raid stuff on the drive. Yes, I am pretty sure it was software raid. (It was onboard). Can I just Boot n Nuke this thing? Thanks |
Yes

sweet! If you happen to know the cli-fu to manually remove it without the boot n nuke, this would be a good place for that info to exist.
I'm bootin' n nukin' right now personally, but someone else might find this thread in the same scenario except needing the data. you guys are awesome, biosboy4 |
mdadm --zero-superblock

I tried that, it seemed to think there was nothing mda related to the drive.
No telling what kind of raid that was. It was onboard an older ThinkCentre around the old gen i3 era. |
Try booting from a live distro and see if you can erase the partition and create a new one

DBAN did not work, I'm booting from a live to partition it now.
Update: Formatting as EXT4 with a debian live disk did the trick! I will say that DBAN seemed to finish rather too quickly, perhaps there was some blip there. |
