Using multiple keyboard layouts

Hi everyone,

I'm using SuSE 10.1, and I was trying to use 2 keyboard layouts under KDE (using the KDE kbd tool to switch between them). I wanted to be able to switch between AZERTY (french) and QWERTY (international) layouts.

Everythings looks fine BUT when I try switching layouts I get an error. So I've tried runnning the command the kbd tool proposes "by hand", and get the following:

~> setxkbmap -model microsoftinet -layout us -variant basic
*Error loading new keyboard description

I've tried using pc102 for the model, even changing the layout or the variant, to no avail. I always get the same message.

How can I solve this problem?

Thanks!

I was using KDE on knoppix recently and it (KDE) kept resetting the keymap and wouldn't load my own modifications. Try killing that stupid KDE tool and setxkbmap should hopefully be OK.
You might have to disable it altogether and login in again. (I couldn't figure out how to stop it being loaded so I switched to icewm, though I use Window Maker on my own box).
