using minicom in Fedora 10

hi all,
i use fedora 10 on VMWARE. I would like to communicate to a device using minicom on the serial port.

the device has linux 2.6 kernel on it and it is configured in such a way that all the boot up messages are written on the debug serial port.When i start minicom and see for the boot up messages i don't get any of them.

Can some please tell me how to communicate with the device using minicom?

Thanking you
sravan
