Using linux backup pc from Vista

Hi all,

I have an old PC and would like to setup a Linux build on it to backup my vista data, and run remote applications on.

I would like to be able to access the linux desktop from my vista system in a window, as I am using my two screens on my newer system and would like to use the same keyboard and mouse when using the linux.

Two questions really:

1. What would be the best linux distro for this, I am thinking ubuntu server (as I have the CD) or Suse

2. How would I connect to the desktop, browser would be good, or is VNC a better option or is there a better option?

Thanks in advance for any help

Hi,

You could use a 'NAS' by setting up with 'FreeNAS' on the old hardware.

The above link and others can be found at 'Slackware-Links'. More than just SlackwareŽ links!

Not that light weight

Thanks for that, the system I will be using is a pentium d 3.4gh with a gig of ram and about 300 GB of storage, so it spretty decent. Only my new system is maxed out out connectivity for storage.
