Using kismet with [user# su] command

Okay, I configured kismet fine. Everything wireless related should be working perfectly fine. However, there is a problem. I set it to run kismet with the id of Cameron, yet when I use kismet under root it gives me a fatal dump file error of: unable to open dump file. Or something similar.

So I decided to try using kismet under the user cameron however first I enter.

cameron@whatever ~# su

I am them prompted to password.
I am using a Whoppix live CD.

And the root password never works. I just says. Sorry, try again.

I even changed to root password to root.

Tried that, same message. Any opinions.

By the way, for my own good, please try to keep the explanations thorough, I am still VERY new to this. (only been using for like a day).

I don't know if it will make anything different, but I will try the same thing with BackTrack.

If just installed kismet today. What worked for me was to run kismet as a normal user (cameron in your case), while in /home/cameron, with "sudo kismet". If sudo is not set up for you, you must set kismet SUID root.
