Question Using "init" command in fedora

G'day
i have been in situations where certain installations require me to shut down the XServer and lower the computer into a lower init level ( init 2-3 ) however in fedora this doesnt seem to work. In other distros one simply types "init 3" while in the gui and the computer logs into a proper shell. however in fedora, the init command is unreccoganzed, even as root. any ideas how to go about this ??

you're probably not logging in as root correctly. init will *always* work if it's accessbile on your path, if it's not on your path, just run it with an absolute reference... /sbin/init. as root of course.
