Using Gnome instead of KDE

Running Suse 9.2 PRO i386. Have KDE 3.3 as desktop manager.Want to try Gnome2.6 but do not know how to install and/or switch desktop managers. Tried various commands, such as startgnome and installgnome but no success.

how are you booting ( in gui or console)?

you could create a .xinitrc file in your home directory with the following:

exec /opt/gnome/bin/gnome-session

If you are using the gui you should be able to choose it from a menu.

Or try Yast and see if that will let you choose (I'm not a suse user, so this one is just a guess).

or, from the initial console ( when you boot):

xinit /opt/gnome/bin/gnome-session.

...and make sure you have gnome installed
(Use YaST in case you don't)
