using dialup modem for ics??

I am brand new to linux. I've used SLAX a few times to test it out before installing anything on my laptop but thats about it. I am using Slackware 11 right now and ive compiled kernal 2.6.5 (I don't know if you need to know that or not).

I have a desktop running winXP home which is connected through a linksys router(wrt45g) through an ethernet cable. I was wondering if it was possible to use the desktop's dialup modem to share the cable connection to the laptop. The laptop is quite old (toshiba tecra 8000) and doesn't have an ethernet port, but has the phone in port. I understand that if this worked, there would be a greatly reduced connection speed but is pretty much my only option. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

as noble as your idea seems, it's also totally nuts... i imagine it's not possible to connect two analog modems with a telephone exchange in the way, and a more possible route would be a link over the serial port, which again is kinda nuts. go buy a pcmcia ethernet card and use a proper network.

Yea I figured it wouldn't work. But I have good news. Originally I thought my usb network adapter wasnt supported in wlan-ng but after reading some more I learned that I needed to manually turn the dhcp client on. So I can be wireless now. Thank you for the reply.
