I recently installed linux on my computer (I'm new to it). I need to somehow read in depth data from a Humminbird fishfinder through an AS PC3 cable. The fishfinder is definitely capable of outputting the data and the website recommends Hyperterminal for Windows.

I think for linux what I need to use is cutecom, and I have installed it. Can cutecom read data from a usb port, or will I need to get an adapter that converts the usb port to a RS232 serial port. What will the "Device" be, because right now all cutecom lists is /dev/ttyS0, /dev/ttyS1, etc.

Check the output of the dmesg command and see if the fish finder is being recognized and if there is a device ID like /dev/ttyUSB0 or /dev/ttyacm0. If not, then post the output of the lsusb command.
