using CUPS for a own designed printer
 
how to create PPD files for a printer that we designed,and it would be good to know about how fonts are rendered to the printer as pixelmap..

If you can design your own printer (I couldn't do that), then maybe you know how to do a search using your favourite search engine.
I found this straight away. It's a bit old but maybe it's still valid. Oh, it's even from... uh ... LQ!!!! If this one doesn't help you might try looking for something yourself.
