using compressed kernel

Hi everyone,

After I installed RedHat 7.1 I took the vmlinuz file it created and installed it on the Dos side of my hard drive. Then I pointed loadlin at it and booted into Linux, no problem. That was about two months ago. Now I've recompiled my kernel as per the HOWTO and replaced the previous vmlinuz file with the new one. But now when I try to use loadlin I get the error message: Unrecognized compressed format. Error number 1. Shutting down system.

What's going on here? The new vmlinuz file has the same extenxions as the previous one. Only difference as far as I can tell is it's approx 1 meg whereas the earlier one was approx. 700k.

Anyone got any ideas?

What steps did you use to create the kernel? Did you use [b]make bzImage[b] or make bzlilo etc...

I used make menuconfig followed by make bzImage.
I've disabled lilo because I prefer to use loadlin once Dos is started. But that wasn't a problem before. The syatem hangs about half a second after clicking on the loadlin icon in Windows so it doesn't seem to be a question of finding something in Linux that isn't kosher; the kernel doesn't get a chance to unravel at all.
