Using '_' or '-' to separate parts of object names (e.g. files)

Dear LinuxQuestionsOrg Community,

Please tell me the prescribed best practice for naming objects such as files folders, or other objects requiring user naming. Is it better to use an '_' or a '-' to separate the parts of a name?

For example, if I wanted to define a folder for the Linux Questions Org Community should I define the folder as 'Linux_Questions_Org_Community',or 'Linux-Questions-Org-Community' or does it matter and come down to personal preference?

To extend my question about naming standards, please also recommend whether it is best to use upper case letters for each part of a name, as I’ve used in the above examples.

I want to be a virtuous Linux practitioner and abide by community best practices.

Thank you much!

Honestly, it is really up to you. A dash and an underscore are allowed in filenames. Just don't use restricted characters that are interpreted by your shell, such as &, *, etc. And always remember, linux is case senstive; If you use capital letters in your filenames or whatever, then they are actual capital letters.
