/user/.thumbnail question

This may seem like a dumb question, so please consider the source.

I have a picture file I can't find - forgot the name, also can't remember it's type, but think it is a JPG. I browsed the user/.thumbnail/normal directory in my normal user area and it's not there anywhere.

HOWEVER, if I browse the .thumbnail/normal area of ROOT, I can see it's thumbnail!!

Here's the question: the name associated with the thumbnail seems to be meaningless text. HOW can I resolve the real location of that picture??? I've searched all the user areas and can't seem to locate it, other than that thumbnail under "ROOT/user/.thumbnail/normal". I suspect the ../.thumbnail/metafile directory has something to do with it, but can't figure out how to resolve this!

Anyone have any ideas??

THANKS!!
Dennis

If you have ImageMagick installed

identify -verbose <thumbnail> | grep URI

-- Got to thinking (uh oh) - even without ImageMagick

strings <thumbnail> | grep -A1 URI

works.
