Usefulness of Linux to a new macintosh powerbook pro user?

Since I have just acquired a new Mac powerbook pro for use in photography processing I am wondering just how useful Linux applications will be to me? I did download, install and use Open Office and like it for the most part for its compatibility with MS Office etc. I have Adobe CS2 and 3 and so GIMP is pretty much overkill for me alongside iPhoto and Aperture but...?

Any useful advice will be appreciated.

Neither Open Office nor Gimp are Linux applications. They are cross-platform applications. And I think that no one besides yourself can decide the usefulness of an app for you.

Linux Usefulness to Mac user etc.

Thanks for the quick response. Had I given it a moment's thought, I should have known that! GIMP is a program that sort of has baffled me since I already have learned to use a good deal of Photoshop so I think I will stick with what I know.

Not much point to adding another OS to a Mac, except for (Ugh) Windows compatibility, I guess. Otherwise it would not have made much sense to switch in the first place. I found, ultimately after years of trying to use it, Windows programs just had too many problems and truly wanted something to simply work when I turned it on and do what I set out to do without driving me nuts in the process. I shall no longer trouble the Linux Questions Forum and will now unsubscribe concentrating instead on what I was doing to begin with. That is simply take care of my picture taking. Incidentally, if anyone cares about another positive review of it, I think that the new Nikon D7000 is a very handy and appropriate path for a professional photographer to take when seeking a backup to a D3_ or whatever full frame camera. The genuine results from the new sensor, even though smaller than the nearly 24X36 FX one are very, very good indeed and the difference in weight and convenience is spectacular.
