Use of Linux in the world
Dear friends,
I started to use the SUSE Linux (SLED 10) in my laptop after removing Windows XP. I have the confident to use the Linux as much as familiar with Windows but I feel, and have more inconvenient to use the old version of skype, gtalk, & firefox in linux. Why these all companies are late to release the products when they release to Windows? How I can resolve this problem? May I know , what percentage of Linux users in desktop when Compare with Windows? Many thanks in advance, |
I don't use Skype, but Firefox is at the same release on Linux as it is on Windows. It sounds like you just need to update your system.

an Enterprise linux is made for stability not bleeding edge software. that's why you have older versions of some things. that doesn't mean you can't install them yourself.
|
Thanks friends. Yes, I checked on the web and got it, Firefox 3.0.4 latest release. Similarly, very important to have Skype on the Linux with latest release. I tried to install through CrossOver. it didn't help me. How can I use the Skype on Linux box?
|
Finally, I could install the Skype, linux version which is very old. I tried to install using crossover the Windows version and that is also freezing when I open. I found, Skype is always working for Windows environment. Your suggestions, dear friends.....

Skype has a download on their site for Linux. In my experience, however, the Linux version is not as full featured as the Windows version and somewhat buggey. I have had Skype on PCLinuxOS 2007 for sometime and recently had it working on Mpeis.
A Goolge search for "Skype installation on Linux" may yield the answers you need. Skype also has free e-mail support and forums for help. Good luck, Michael |
subakaran, If you really need to use a stable current version of skype, then you need to use native windows and dual boot linux.
Starting 2006, I went full time 100% linux. So far, I can do everything in linux at least for my needs. Not everyone can go full time linux because they still need their windows for what ever reason. Remember a computer is a tool, you got to use what ever gets the job done for you and ONLY YOU. - Cheers |
