USB wireless adapter detecetd but can not connect to internet!
Hi!
I have just installed a wireless network at home, using ADSL router, wireless router and USB wireless adapter on desktok. All these are TP-Link make. The USB adapter is PN-54WUSB. I am using Suse 10.2 and Yast has detected the USB adapter. The progress stops here and nothing further happens. I am absolutely new to Linux and wonder what next! Thanks. |
Namaste hpvaishnav,
check what chipset your usb wireless adapter using, and see if it is listed on lsmod. if not listed, try modprobe it. if my method is wrong, please correct me. good luck. ;-) |
1. Check the ASDL Modem Confgiuration. It have something like VPC/VPN number that have to be provided by the ISP. Also DNS Server and alternate DNS Server
2. Try to ping the ASDL Modem. If you can ping it then it seem the ASDL connection to the out-world is in problem. Otherwise, then your LAN connection to the modem is in problem. 3. Set your route with ASDL. # route add default gw 192.168.1.1-> replace this with modem's IP Address. Hope it works! Thanks... |
Oh, sorry. i didn't notice the 'Yast has detected the USB adapter' part. Yea, so as shadowdancer said. also consider about wep/wpa encryptions, since you are using wireless connection.

USB wireless adapter
Thanks and Namaste! Very heartening to see the prompt response.
I have tried iwconfig too. But it does not store WEP key. I guess ADSL configuration comes after the USB adapter starts detecting the network signal from the wireless router, is it not? There is no green light ever blinking from the adapter. The manufacturer does not have any help for Linux OS. Regards |
can you ping your adsl router? can you paste your lsusb and lsmod here?
