USB Stick (FAT16) get corrupted files; what new format should I use?

hello,
an USB stick (FAT16) is getting corrupted files (I was informed, files cannot be stored on it).
So, I would like to re-format it.
Which format?
This stick will be connected later to linux / windows and apple computers (for exchanging personal files).

FAT32?
ext2? (probably not.. Win PC will not read it?)

Hi,

If your files on the USB stick are getting randomly corrupted, then the issue is the device itself. However, if you think it is just a few bad blocks or something, reformatting it should work. FAT32 should be used for devices >2GB and need to be easily readable by Windows/Linux/Mac. But all of the partitioning software I used automatically selects the appropriate FS.

good luck,

Throw it away. Format doesn't affect the ability to store data properly.

if is is fat 16 and the files are bigger than 32 meg ....
or the file names are long ....

I agree with jefro. The memory stick is no good. Best thing you can do is throw it away unless you like pulling your hair out for nothing.

Agreed, they are not too expensive nowadays anyways

So, I copied all files to a new stick (FAT32).
The old stick was verified with GPARTED, check function .. (I will throw it away another day).
