USB Printer on Linux
Hi,
I have OMAP3 (linux 2.6.22.18) based board. I need to add support for printer in it. I'm going to buy a USB thermal printer for it. I want to know, -> what all kernel modules and print utility I'll need to add the support. I'm a new bee for embedded systems. Any help will be really appropriated. Thanks in Advance, |

Basic answer: you need CUPS running. There are lots of how-to guides on Google that can show you how to get it going. No idea of any of them are going to fit your system, you'll have to figure that out. |

Thanks for your reply. My board is an OMAP3 EVM board. With 1 USB port, 3 UARTs. I'm working on proving concept of one hand-held device, Which will also have one small printer to print receipts. I have decided to use one USB thermal printer. I'm yet to select which thermal printer I'll attach to the board. I have linux 2.6.22.18 running on the EVM. It has usblp drivers in it. I'm quite not sure, whether this driver should work with any usb printer. Should it? I'm looking in to CUPS, for print utility point of view. |
As TB0ne replied, your question is too vague.
You may want to buy a printer for which there is PPD driver (needed for CUPS): http://openprinting.org/driver_list.cgi |
