I have reciently installed Linux Mandriva Special Edition on my PC. All my hardware is picked up on this system except my Motorola C650 cell-phone. My cell is my only connection to the internet so I have two options.

1. Use windows.
2. Get the drivers to work on Mandriva.

Both of these are difficult for me to do as windows is no longer an option I can reliably use and I have no Idea how to get the drivers to work for my motorola Phone on Mandriva.

I downloaded a dirver that was said to work but it spills out Errors when I try.

I followed the setup instructions exactly as it said but still, as you can nodoubtably guess, it did not work.

Where are drivers for Mototrola c650 in linux? Is it possible that this phone will work in Linux? How?..

and kmobiletools is equal to motorola mobile tools but it's free !!!

I have now downloaded moto4lin and the thing dosn't seem to like me at all. do you know if this needs any other installations before it will work?

I am now going to try follow google's translated version of the spanish tutorial to get it up and working...

now all I need to do is to try connect via the phone using the GPRS and I'll be sorted!

OK.. This is what I have done...

I followed the Spanish tutorial and I installed the Kmobiletools (thanks to nightjar)

Set up kppp and everything works fine including the GPRS through kppp

but...

I can only do all this as root and it seems like i have to do this everytime I boot up.

How do I:
1) Set this up without having to redo the settings everytime I want to boot.
2) be able to use this when not in root?

change you the permissions of ttyACM0?

You can load the module when you boot inserting cdc_acd in /etc/modprobe.conf (Mandriva) or probing in different modules file

This is what I have done:
1) I put cdc_acm in to the modprobe.preload file - this does the /dev/ttyACM0 thingy.
2) In root:
# mknode /dev/modem c 166 0
# chmod a+rw /dev/ttyACM0
# chmod a+rw /dev/modem

this allows kppp to use my phone with no problimatic replys when I end the root's session and login as a user but... (there is always a but) I don't want to log into root every single time I use my pc. How do I do step 2 without logging into root? The permissions seem to reset themselvs to root privilages only, on reboot.
