Question USB mobile disk safely unplug

Under Windows there is a particular feature (¨Hardware Safely Remove¨) that you can run and after that you can safely unplug the usb device. Is there something similar under Linux? (I'm using Suse 9)

Thanks for your time!!

you can also right click the icon of your USB Mobile Disk and there's an option to remove.

pop open a terminal, and type
umount /dev/sda1

or whatever your flash disk is mounted as.
KDE generally puts things in media:/ when it mounts them, check there too, you might be able to unmount it that way.

I typed /dev/sda1 but my usb's red led is still on that means do not remove it...
The usb is mounted in the directory /media
Everything appears there as folder. What do you mean "you might be able to unmount it that way"?? In which way? What can I do the folder?
