USB distribution recommendation
 

Hello everyone,

Can you please recommend me an USB Linux distribution?

I want it to be able to run from RAM, to have persistence and
I want an encrypted /home directory (or /home subdirectories) that can be decrypted (and encrypted back on logout) by the login manager.

Desktop environment and package manager does not matter, it could be without a package manager.

So far, Slax seems to be a good option, it also can be stored on a FAT32 partition, but it does not come with an option to encrypt the home directory.

However, there are other distributions with persistence that can run from RAM using boot options like toram or copy2ram.
I believe the live version of Fedora runs by default from RAM.

What do you think? Is there a distro that comes with an encrypted home directory out of the box? If not, then which one is easier to configure?

puppy linux or tails is geared to be run from RAM by default. It's not that hard to migrate any distro to a USB boot medium. Just rsync, setup fstab to know it's new home, setup grub, boot it. Not so sure about the encryption bits. But with enough ram you can rsync home to a ramdisk after boot. Which I've done in the past when running from horribly slow USB mediums. Without that step, browser caching makes everything buffer, including 240p youtube videos.

What is the use of persistence by the way? Almost every modern distro can run from a usb as a native install. Some can be set to run snapshots too. Persistence would suggest that your changes are saved and that kind of goes against the ram deal.
