USB Cable Modem and Mandrake 8.2
Not sure if this is the correct forum - please move this if it's not - but following my lap of honour, I thought I'd let you know about my experience with my USB cable modem and Mandrake 8.2
Everything I had seen through a variety of searches and forums said that I should not beable to get my NTL cable modem working via USB in Linux - and yet here I am posting from LInux...... The way I did it was to set up the eth0 connection as normal through the Mandrake Control Centre and to modify /etc/modules.conf by adding the following line at the beginning: alias eth0 CDCEther. I then attempted to connect. Fired up the browser and here I am! I think that it's just a lucky fluke. |
Good on ya for figuring it out, sure will help some people later on...
p.s. life is full of flukes ;) #Garry |
Embarrassingly, it looks like I was a bit premature with the victory celebrations - it worked and then stopped working. I can see the NTL (Ambit) cable modem lights merrily flashing, but I couldn't make a link again. It seems to work for a couple of goes and then fail.
Looks like I'll have to go via the NIC route after all. |
