USB 56K modem with Smartlink drivers

I have bought an USB 56k external modem by trust. I have read that it works with Smartlink 'drivers'

My SuSE 10.1 provides SL version 2.9, so I followed the how-to instructions.

When I type

# modprobe slusb

there's no problem. But after giving:

# slmodemd --country=ITALY /dev/slusb0

I get an error because /dev/slusb0 does not exist!
That's true: I checked and no /dev/sl... device is available

Which is my mistake, sorry?

What kernel driver are you using? Perhaps if you can read some of its documentation in linux source or in the web, then you can do some
mknod c|b n n
to create the device file. And before that please make sure you're using the right driver and it's properly loaded. do
dmesg | less -S
for that.
