USB 3 not working

I'm new to Linux so please be kind. A guy developed a program for us using Slackware 12.0. Recently, he upgraded the kernel to 2.39 where we would have the ability to utilize usb 3. Unfortunately, usb 3 is not working properly. Since I'm not familiar with a lot of Linux, I am wondering since he did not upgrade to Slackware 13.37 if this could be affecting it? Could this out-dated version of Slackware be affecting usb 3 or does usb3 only come from the kernel?

USB 3.0 will work fine with Kernel 2.6.39 (I'm assuming you mean that one since there is no 2.39).

Try this to make USB 3.0 work (in terminal, as root):

rmmod xhci_hcd; modprobe xhci_hcd
Let us know what happens!
