Mandrake comes ready installed with a great RPM tool - rpmdrake.
This'll usually sort out all your dependency issues for you - or you can urpmi from the command line.
For rpmdrake go to:
start menu -> system -> configuration -> configure your computer.
enter your root password.
MCC opens - you want Software management.
Here you can install, remove, update and manage all the packages on your box.
If you configure your sources using: http://urpmi.org/easyurpmi/index.php easy urpmi, you can almost effortlessly add your choice of packages from a wealth of software to your PC in a few clicks.
There's a tutorial on using easy urpmi in the Mandrake forum here at LQ: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...hreadid=203939

Try did you try all the different sites for the downloads? Their servers can be very busy, perhaps a different time of day for your chosen servers will work better.

Maybe the server you chose was down, or just busy. Try again when it's the middle of the night local time wherever the server is located.
If you get consistent errors with your chosen server, report it to the guys over at easyurpmi, and chose another server for your downloads.
If you're in Europe, then the Belgian servers listed on easyurpmi work a treat - they're fast and have lots of content.
If you're elsewhere in the world, then I can't really help with your server choice. Sorry.
