urgent plzzz!!!!

hey guys plz help urgent..

can anyone tell me what is the command that i should run in the terminal to be able to lunch a pppoe application????

Matir 07-12-2005 05:05 PM

Would google have taken too long for your urgent matter? And a better subject would've been "Unable to bring up pppoe link". Then a description of what you've tried, what you've googled, and what the results have been. See the link in my signature for more details on how to get a better response out of us who spend our time voluntarily answering your questions. If you're using the user-space pppoe daemon, try just 'pppoe'. If you're using the roaring penguin pppoe system, try 'adsl-setup'. If you can tell us which distribution you are using and which pppoe client you are using, we would be better equipped to assist you.

There are very few times I get riled up on here. If you had bothered to read my message, I did discuss possible solutions to your issue. You should be grateful that there are people willing to use THEIR time to help YOU for free.

1st of all im sorry im not even doing it for myself im helping a friend he got dc from the net and im helping him ove rthe phhone i know nothing about this issue but all he asked me ois to ask this question and give him the answer!

Mhamad, people here volunteer their time and knowledge to help others. Calling your thread 'urgent' makes it impossible to see if it's worth looking into or not (or: I know the answer or not), so there's less probability to get your answer. Also, attacking someone who noticed the facts above is not a good idea and is not accepted. Especially when the person gave you answer.

Mara, thank you for backing me up on this. I do appreciate that the moderators understand and respond to the needs of the members.

What's funny is when you make a new topic is says right there "Don't use titles like Urgent!" or something along those lines! :p Is this going to be closed?

Matir 07-12-2005 09:11 PM

I'm glad that others seem to agree I wasn't wrong to comment on that one. It really does help us help others.

People on LQ are usually much better at being polite about answering newbie questions than anywhere else I've seen, but there are times when you have to draw the line. I'd support deleting any thread with a useless subject, but perhaps I'm too harsh. Mhamad people aren't trying to bash you, but please put some effort into reading how to post before you do so.

Charred 07-13-2005 12:29 AM

Indeed.

Also required would be some more extra information, such as, distro, modem, area of the world.

But i do tend to laugh at people who use the *SHOCK* headings for topics, mostly because i used to do similar things when i was a newbie. But you soon learn after getting flamed and bitched at constantly.

To Mhamad, google is your best friend, lq is your second best friend, but making new threads with stupid titles will get you no where on any forum. I'd suggest you start a new thread called "How to launch pppoe from console", and follow the advice given by Matir.

geeman2.0 07-13-2005 02:14 PM

Maybe the mods should ban topics with "urgent" in the titles :)

tuxrules 07-13-2005 04:53 PM

I absolutely agree with Matir and other LQers...People don't even have to read "how to ask questions the right way" but just use their common sense.
