Upon Boot-Up (Starting Email Transport)

Dark-Blue Times

AspLinux 10 Ver.

After permanently changing my "Host-name" Upon Boot-Up I have noticed the displayed messages that shows which processes are starting in x-windows, It takes a long time to complete when starting "sendmail" then when looking at the details it will tell me that it is trying to complete the email transport services, Can anyone tell me why it takes forever to complete the services, It will go through the process with no errors, but it takes so long to complete. I take it that something changed when the Host-name was changed.

I appreciate your help.

It is trying to resolve your hostname, delay is DNS timeout. You may fix things by introducing your box to itself. Just edit your 'hosts' file. ('man hosts' for syntax.) Also, sendmail can be reconfigured not to use DNS.

In my Distro, I had to go and edit two files to fix my issue. First I had to edit the /etc/host file, Second I had to edit the /etc/sysconfig/network file as well. Originally I had just edit the /ect/host file.

Now my box boots up quickly.

Thanks for making me go back to the basics and a little of reading made me think clearly as to what to look for.
