upgrading without losing data
 
can anyone guide me how to upgrade ,USING A HARDY CD,my gutsy WITHOUT LOSING DATA from my hard drive.i already have a home folder partition

Boot from CD...select "UPGRADE" from the menu. Don't format your /home partition.

that simple???irrespective of partition type???does it promt for a home format option so that i can cancel it???

Yes, that simple, and I've yet to see a distro that doesn't prompt you on which partition to format. However, there's always a first time, but you can always cancel before you do anything, if it doesn't prompt you.

You should always ALWAYS, back up your data first, regardless of how safe you think it would be.
