Upgrading to Mandrake 10?

Hi to all ! I was using Mandrake 9 and recently i got Mandrake 10 and i want to install it instead of the older version. So i need a guidance at this point: I have important docs. on linux. I am also using XP on the same machine. So as a question to the people with high level of knowledge , i want to ask how i could back up my files or how i could install the Mandrake 10 version without losing my important files.
I am waiting for your replies dear experts!
Thanks...
cagri.

For sure you'd need to use "custom partitioning". Then you can choose which partitions you want to format and which ones - not. What's your partitioning scheme? The most important thing is - do you have a separate /home ?

You could try using exploref2s to view your linux drive in windows. Then you can just temporarily move any files over to windows.

i have two partitions .So do you say that copying all important files to one(but which?) of the partitions and then setting up Mandrake 10 to the other partition could solve the problem? Please if possible i need some more info.

Dear Mlehliw , do you mean installing Mandrake 10 after a whole format to the all partitions? (Also after temporarily backing up files on Xp ---->i think it works ! i will try that program) thanks.

What are the partitions? Do you count swap in the two? If that's true, you'd need to copy files from Linux to Windows. You can choose which partitions to format (still, for sure if you choose custom paritioning, I've never tried any other :) ), so you can format only Linux keeping Windows untouched.

i didnt count the swap. with swap there are 3 partitions.
