You cannot upgrade between Puppy Versions like 4.31 to 5.20 or 5.25.
Backup what you want to keep off your Puppy 4 install (music, books, mail, etc...) to pendrive or CD and you will have to do a clean install of Puppy 5. Upgrades in Puppy are possible in full installs like 4.12 to 4.31 or 5.-- to 5.25 but are not possible between version 3 to like ver4 to like ver5. http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=69983 |
It's easier than you think.
Well, if you have a frugal install, you'll have a pupsave file. You can just download the Puppy 5 iso, also called an image file, burn it onto a cd with Puppy's cd burner, set your computer to boot from cd in the BIOS, and Puppy will boot right to a desktop for version 5. I love it! Sorry. Ahem. Then you can use the Universal Installer to create a pupsave for version 5 by selecting "Frugal Install" and you can have both versions on your computer. Compare and contrast. If any of this is too vague, I'm sorry, just ask for clarification. I'm not The Great Communicater. And it's okay to be a noob, nobody is Technosaurus but Technosaurus. Have you been to the Puppy forum?
http://http://murga-linux.com/puppy/ Install help: http://http://murga-linux.com/puppy/...ic.php?t=29356 And btw, you might want to get a good HDD scrubber. I use Darik's Boot and Nuke for that deep down clean feeling and HDD Shredder for the quick erasures. Puppy takes about 15 minutes to install frugally with practice. |
