Unhappy upgraded to 8.10 from 8.04 now sis video is poor on acer laptop. 8.04 video is great

I was using ubuntu 8.04 and it worked fine. even after going to 8.04.1 it was still nice. going to 8.10 video is now poor by comparison. how can I make the sis video work like it used to? is there a file I can copy from 8.04 disk that will fix this issue?

using live 8.04 it returns to former greatness, same with super ubuntu 8.04 september. 8.10 breaks the sis driver somehow.

8.10 has a new version of xorg. That could have to do with it, I don't know but it seems likely. You could try copying over your xorg.conf from 8.04 but there is not telling whether it will make any difference, one of the new features introduced by the newer xorg is that it tends to figure things out for itself.
