Upgraded from Core 5 to Core 6. Nothing will update

I downloaded the DVD install of Fedora Core 6 for the I386. It was installed as an upgrade to retain earlier info. When the install was finished, it seemed to work fine except it would do no automatic updates (with YUM or software updater). it indicated the repository of base programs was gone

What do I do?

Run yum clean; deinstall yum then reinstall it.

Are you connected to the internet because if you are not, you will keep having problems with YUM not finding the repos for the baseurl. Also, instead of trying to remove YUM, I suggest you reinstall the fedora-release rpm for Fedora Core 6.
