I had installed Ubuntu 12.04 on a exterior disc when upgrading to 12.10 all went well until a message saying that the Graphics card was not compatible, and that it will work slowly which I accepted. Upon the necessary restart I get the message that the Graphics card is incompatible I click o.k. and get a choice, but, I cannot click anything or move the choice. I have to click Escape to clear the screen. which restarts and the same procedure appears. I can use Windows 7 (which I do not like) or an old copy of Linux Mint. Do I have to format everything to be able to use Ubuntu 12.10
Any helpful information would be appreciated

Try adding "nomodeset" to the boot options.

Thanks for the info, but, I have decided to format both the Internal and external discs, then, start over again.
