Upgrade to RH 9.0 without losing data?

Hello!

I want to upgrade my RH 7.1 to RH 9.0. I know that there is an option of just upgrading. In this case, there is no need to repartition. But when I was doing the simple upgrade, I received a complaint that there was not enough space on /boot and /usr. I'm quite new to Linux, so I feel a bit stuck... I know I could always install RH 9.0 from scratch and repartition during installation. But then I will loose data. I have done backups of course, but I was wondering if there is something else I can do.

Thanks,
habadash

Best thing I would suggest is do a minimal install and then when it comes up add RPMS manually. It could be just trying to put on to much stuff

If not then you will need to repartiton

I have done the same thing: from RH7.1 to RH9.0
Please note: during the upgrading, do NOT elliminate ANY packages it has selected for you. Otherwise it is possible to have some incomplete components, like X.
On most of the occasions, you'll not loose any thing during upgrading.

you wont have any incompliete packages if you let the set up tool to compete depencies it will ask you to add those packages too. and even if you install minimum in the /boot partion there is only kernel so what ever installation method you choose kernel will always be installed.
